ABOUT DARUMA

A daruma is a goal-setting tool.

Set a single wish and paint in one eye to begin; paint the second once it comes true. In Japan, daruma have long marked goals - in elections, exams and business. Each time you see it, it reminds you of what you're working toward.

How it works

---

STEP 1

Learn the tradition

Before you pick up a brush, the included video walks you through daruma's history and the artisan's techniques, a short window into where this craft comes from.

STEP 2

Paint your wish

Choose your colors and paint at your own pace, the quiet focus of working with your hands. Bring a single wish to life and paint in one eye as you begin, to hold the goal you're setting.

STEP 3

Keep it in sight

Keep your daruma somewhere you'll see it. With one eye open, it quietly reminds you of what you're working toward.

STEP 4

Complete it when it comes true

When your wish comes true, paint in the second eye. Both eyes open, the goal it carried is done.
